Calm Before the Storm

Here’s a chap for you!  And look, even a rare WuxiaWorld Thread pokemon!

I’ve re-edited up to chapter 15 with our new translator standards, which was:

  • Replacing Laozi with various types of ‘yo daddy, big daddy here’, etc etc.
  • Melding idioms to lower the amount of distracting translator notes: ie, instead of a crane amidst chickens + TL note, it will be a magnificent crane amidst chickens. It’s not exactly translating, but reading is all about enjoyment and not footnotes right?
  • Oh also, from time to time we will replace ‘Ca!’ the interjection with a better English equivalent when there is one, since that was kinda lazy of us (like laozi was).

Very likely, from now on, there will be much fewer changes like these. 30+ chapters of re-editing is already pretty demanding on what little time I have, so I have to split it up into various days.

That’s all. Here’s a random picture that I kinda wanna make our background:

  1. Ya know, it always brings tears of gratitude to my aging, grumpy critic eyes when I see hard-at-work translators editing their past indiscretions. You guys are quite conscientious and I approve of the “Ca” translation as well as other transmogrifications of idioms / interjections. Keep up the great work and the amusing FYI pictures.

  2. I like the pic! Use it! Waha! Also, don’t over do it and take things in strides now 🙂 your work is very well done and we can always point out mistakes and such. I dont think we are so greedy that your shortened terms were unacceptable. I understood everything that was meant to be said, with your notes. :p It’s still great that you are taking so much effort to give us quality translations so no complaints here. *bows deeply* With all that said.. Thanks for the chapter wahaha. XD

Ps Do you know or recommend translated works similar to this?

    1. thanks, we appreciate it! our layout right now is pretty restrictive with what we can decorate with, though i confess I haven’t put much time into it yet. we will soon though! nothing like a true look and feel of the novel – im guessing the author BiXian is probably from the region as well.

as for other works, you mean like Chinese gangster novels? Orrr, perhaps modern/urban novels? TBH I don’t know any, though the closest relative we have is probably Lingson’s translation on WuxiaWorld, but none of us have read it. Haven’t had time to look around other novels or even keep up with the ones I started, so sorry can’t help much there :S As far as we know, this is a pretty brand new genre being translated relative to Chinese novels, so maybe by a few months there will be more xD

      1. Oh? I assumed it was one out of many. I felt pretty refreshed with the new serious dog eat dog, blood flows in rivers wuxia atmosphere in the modern setting and hoped that there were more like it. I’m not disappointed though. I wasn’t actively looking for anything new, just curious :p…. and you both are very welcome :3

      2. oh, you mean novels that exist in general? There’s probably hundreds if not thousands of these kinds of novels being written right now or are available on sites, but I thought you were talking about ones being translated, which we know of none. One other novel we were looking at before we picked this one was called Endless Armament, some kind of hellish urban setting which probably has rivers of blood, maybe you and me both will get lucky and someone will translate it for us!

    2. Thanks for the input! We might just convert it into a custom theme. Thanks for the compliment, we take great pride in our work! Hmm, unfortunately we don’t know of any similar novels at the moment. We’ll get back to you if we find any though!
