Jiang Ye Chapter 54

Chapter 54 is quite short! We aim to have 2 chaps this week.

Translation Notes:

Zhang is a Chinese measurement which has varied in length depending on the time period (Lulz), about 3.5 meters as of the last standardization of it.

pudaos

Pudao 朴刀 Pǔ dāo – lit. ‘plain blade’, can refer to a series of weapons, but AFAIK, most commonly it refers to the polearm version. It is distinguished from the GuanDao (the famous weapon of Guan Yu which he did not actually wield IRL) by the ring at the very bottom. A GuanDao will have a pommel or jagged mace at the bottom, whereas all ‘pu’ weapons will have a ring at the bottom. I…have no idea why this is so. Anyways it was used as an infantry weapon for countering horses by cutting off their legs with the extra length. The novel refers to Ning Que’s weapon as a pudao, which can be the shorter version like the da dao!

pudao

So stylin’ there Ning Que. I approve!
