Chapter 68!

Chapter 68

There’s a phrase in here that doesn’t translate very well. Following our merging of localizing/translating and idioms/immediate understanding policy, it pops up in Translator Corner again!

狗血淋头 Gǒu xiě lín tóu – Dog blood poured over the head, is a phrase that is to describe being viciously scolded or yelled at, kinda like the expression ‘getting chewed out’ but for some reason my translator balancing scale says that it is still worse.

It comes from an ancient story where a prefect suspects a person is a demon, and throws dog blood over his head because it was believed it could nullify his magic. I don’t remember what happens afterwards in the story and my lazy brief search has not yielded anything quickly so…yeah. I also am not sure that this is an enduring belief within Chinese folk religion as a, uh, demon dispelling agent.

Also google translates ‘yao ren’ as magician or sorcerer…I’m pretty sure that’s wrong but not absolutely sure. The ‘yao’ is the same as ‘YaoNie Bing Wang’, and also the same as ‘you’ in ‘youkai’ which if you’ve seen Inuyasha or read Kekkaishi you should be familiar with the term. Pretty sure it means like a demon person, such as a demon changing form to look like a person. Just a random translation question :3
